Rated as one of the best things to do when visiting Martinique, this memorial that was completed in 1998 by Martinican sculptor Laurent Valere commemorates the 150th anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the French West Indies and a shipwreck into Anse Cafard that killed everyone on board, including the slaves that were chained to the cargo hold. The statues can be visited at any time of day as there is no entrance gate or guide.
