The Zonm Lib or Free Man Monument in Mahé, Seychelles was built to commemorate the Liberation Day of June 5, 1977. On that day, a coup d’etat by then Prime Minister France Albert René removed Seychelles’ first President from power. Located on Bois de Rose Avenue in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, the monument also represents the end of colonial oppression and injustice and was dedicated to the martyrs of the revolution by the President of the Second Republic.
