- Villa San Michele is an original historical house and was the home of its Swedish creator, the physician and writer Axel Munthe. In ancient times an imperial Roman villa stood here and the ruins are still visible in the garden. The architecture enhances the wide landscape and frames the works of art exposed in the villa. Part of San Michele is also the Barbarossa Castle, a natural oasis , now an Ornithological Station of Anacapri. Since 1950 the villa has been administered by the Swedish San Michele Foundation.
