Additional Details

Envisioned, created, and nurtured by Jean-Philippe Thoze, Jardin de Balata is a stunning garden built around a Creole house in Fort-de-France, Martinique.

At once a horticulturist, landscape designer and poet, Jean-Philippe’s passion for botanicals and appreciation for his childhood experience is evident in the “perfect alchemy between a ‘back-to-childhood’ experience and a one-of-a-kind artist.” The garden consists of 3,000 species of tropical plants including balisiers,  hibiscus,  bromeliads from South America, porcelain roses, heliconias and anthuriums and, of course, wild orchids.

The garden is open every day from 9am – 6pm and a 1.5 to 2 hour tour of the house, garden, play areas and other areas on the property are available. A gift shop is also onsite.
