The Caguana Ceremonial Ball Courts Site was constructed by the Taino Indians between 1200 and 1500 A. The stone-lined ball courts called bateyes was created for a two-team game played with a rubber ball. It is believed the court also had a ceremonial purpose and that the game was played by Tainos in Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, The Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. The Caguana Ceremonial Ball Courts Site consists of cobbled walkways bordering ten bateyes and stone monoliths and many are decorated with petroglyphs.
